Cargobob is one of the more tense setup jobs in GTA V, and it only appears when you pick the Offshore route for The Merryweather Heist. Trevor needs a heavy helicopter because the later operation depends on moving a submersible by air, not by road. Players looking through GTA 5 Accounts often focus on bigger missions, but this one matters because it turns a simple theft into a rough flying test. The real pressure begins before Trevor even reaches the aircraft: Fort Zancudo is packed with soldiers, patrols, and enough firepower to punish a slow approach.
Getting Through the Base
You do not need a neat plan here. Trevor has to push into Fort Zancudo, take control of a vehicle near the entrance, and keep moving through the compound. Hanging around the checkpoint is a bad call. Gunfire starts fast, fences get in the way, and the route to the airfield can feel messy in the best possible GTA fashion. A blue SUV is useful because it can absorb a few hits while Trevor heads for the helipad. The important thing is momentum. If you stop to deal with every soldier, the mission can get out of hand.
| Stage | Main Focus | What Helps | | Base entry | Reach the airfield | Keep driving and use fences as shortcuts | | Takeoff | Leave before pressure builds | Board the Cargobob without delay | | Escape | Lose the pursuing aircraft | Fly low, fast, and away from the base | | Delivery | Land at Sandy Shores | Line up early and avoid a hard touchdown |
The Flight Out
Once Trevor climbs into the Cargobob marked MARINES 435, things do not suddenly become easy. The military sends an attack helicopter after him, so the first minutes in the air are about survival. Stay forward, use hills and ridges when you can, and do not drift above Fort Zancudo longer than needed. After the pursuer falls behind, the trip opens up. You cross Los Santos, move past Vinewood Hills, and head toward the dry country around Grand Senora Desert. Trevor also calls Wade during the run, which gives the mission a nice lived-in feel.
Get airborne quickly after reaching the helipad.
Use terrain to break the pursuer's line of sight.
Keep the Cargobob level during the longer trip north.
Set up your landing before reaching Sandy Shores Airfield.
Why the Landing Still Counts
The last stretch looks calm, though the Cargobob is heavy and needs room. Trevor must bring it into his Sandy Shores hangar without clipping nearby equipment or dropping it too hard. That final landing completes the setup and leaves the helicopter ready for the offshore job ahead. For players who want to revisit the heist with a different save path, buy GTA V Accounts options may be worth comparing, since this mission is a solid reminder that clean flying can matter as much as loud action.
